Counterfeiting is one of the most negative trends of our time. The eyewear sector is specially targeted, if it is true that counterfeiting has caused an estimated loss of approx. 15% of the market with a drop of almost Euro 100 million in the turnover of Italian companies. The most unscrupulous characters often take advantage of events like fairs to distribute their ‘imitation’ products.
This is why Mido has adopted all devices at its disposal to decidedly fight this trend over the past thirteen years. The preventive action is implemented through the Anti-counterfeiting Service organised by a team of experts and through a series of warnings. A letter was sent to all exhibitors reminding them that presenting imitation products at the Fair was an unlawful act that bore criminal consequences. During the event the Brand and Patent Protection Service will conduct checks to detect any infringements and limit any type of counterfeiting at all levels. The intervention of judicial authorities, the only one authorised to seize goods, will be requested for the most serious cases, besides the normal procedure of lodging a complaint and bringing a lawsuit against the party.
In short, it will be an open battle against counterfeiting, which “is fought by acknowledging its existence”, to quote Lawyer Dr. Daniela Macinini who is in charge of Mido’s Service.
