Luxottica Group and Stella McCartney Limited, a joint-venture between Stella McCartney and Gucci Group N.V., announced that a license agreement has been signed for the design, production and worldwide distribution of the sunglasses collection with the Stella McCartney label.
The agreement comes into effect January 2009 and is for several years (6 years with automatic renewal for another 5). The first collection will be on the market in summer 2009.
Her first collection of sunglasses was launched in 2003 and Stella McCartney will continue to follow every stage of the creative process herself while working in close contact with Luxottica’s designers and product teams.
Marco Bizzarri, CEO and President of Stella McCartney, commented: “This new agreement strengthens Stella McCartney’s presence in eyewear and is another development of our brand at international level. We are proud to work with Luxottica, the world’s most important company in this sector. We will be able to combine our mutual experience and skills to create a very strong relationship.”
Luxottica Group Chief Executive Andrea Guerra said: “We are very proud of this new partnership with Stella McCartney and Gucci Group. Stella McCartney is one of the best known and most popular young talents of the new generation of fashion stylists. Her brand’s characteristics fit perfectly in our portfolio and reinforce it.”
The distribution of the Stella McCartney collections will be exclusive: beginning with the Stella McCartney stores and the most exclusive outlets in North America, Japan, Hong Kong and the Middle East, they will be introduced gradually to other key markets in the sector.
