Growth of 25% and new collections at Mido for Sover

The positive trend continues for Sover, the leading company in the eyewear sector based at Soverzene in the province of Belluno. With 2007 billings of Euro 28 million, Sover now aims to maintain a 25% growth rate and reach Euro 35 million by end 2008. Exports are over 39%, which means that Sover Italy has far exceeded the national average of 14.2% (source: Anfao, sunglasses category). Sover’s leadership in international terms is confirmed by two important agreements it has signed recently. The first is with Hal, the world’s second-largest optics chain, which has just acquired 33% of Sover Optica Shop, and the second is with Marchon Usa for the distribution of its own top brands in Russia.
The success of the formerly small company headed by the Cannicci family is due principally to its gradual acquisition of the Alviero Martini, Mariella Burani, Baldinini and Kiton brands, which were carefully chosen to cover various targets and are produced with a craftsmanship that begs comparison. Over the years, and ahead of its competitors, Sover has also built up a sound network in eastern European markets: in Romania it also has a chain of wholly-owned stores, Sover Optica Shop, and a joint venture based in Bucharest, Sover Romania, which are in addition to those in Moscow and Prague and more than adequately cover a strongly expanding market.
Following the consolidation of the eastern European markets, Sover is now aiming mainly at Germany and France, areas in which it is rapidly developing thanks to a direct presence that cuts out the intermediary stage. Starting with offices in Paris, it intends to continue with a similar structure in Germany.
Sover is also keeping an attentive eye on the United States where it is gradually gaining significant space; this is an obligatory choice given that in 2007 the US “absorbed” 27% of Italian sunglasses.
Marketing manager Stefano Cannicci spoke positively about the excellent results which are due to “careful choices, especially with regard to quality. The sales trend repays our objective of taking the best of Made in Italy to the entire world. And we share these important brand values with our licenses. At the next Mido we will present the first Kiton collection, which has been given all our attention to confirm the prestige of this world-famous Italian tailor. Naturally, in addition to Kiton, we will be presenting the new eyewear in the other three lines”.
Sover president Paolo Cannicci is of the same opinion. With the figures in front of him he said that performance in 2007 was very good. “We have grown a lot abroad and we will continue to do so thanks to the backup of our distribution network and our knowledge of many European economic areas. We now have over 300 employees, eighty of whom are operatives at the Soverzene facility and the remainder are at our bases in Romania, Russia and the Czech Republic”.
